A simple, sensible plan for a North American transport network

Gil Carmichael puts forward a plan to upgrade the North American rail network to provide a cost-effective and efficient system, linking cities, ports and airports to transport goods and people.

This could be a way to break the logjam in the current debate over whether or not to build high-speed railways.
